zmień Former Jo Goldenberg’s Restaurant
An époque ended with the closing of the famous Jo Goldenberg’s Restaurant. Fleeing the pograms in Russia, Jo Goldenberg opened up his first shop on rue de Rosiers in 1920’s. Passed on through several generations of his family, it’s famous azkenazi specialties and classic ambiance made it an institution in the Jewish community. In 1982, the restaurant was the target of a grenade attack by terrorists, killing six people. Despite the tragedy, the restaurant was to last over two more decades, until it finally closed in 2009. A fashionable young women’s clothing store called “Cherry’s” has taken its place, but one may still see the Goldenberg’s awning and characteristic yellow mosaic flanked by its newly established awnings- a contrast which is perhaps more than simply a sign of the times.
