Edit American Military Cemetery

Address
14710 Coleville-sur-Mer, Coleville-sur-Mer, France
Starting Address:

The American military cemetery in nearby Coleville-sur-Mer is a staggering array of simple white crosses, punctuated by numerous Star of David memorials commemorating the many Jewish soldiers that gave their lives to liberate France from Nazi occupation. Walking amongst the graves of the silent heroes is a humbling experience, especially when contemplating the ultimate sacrifice made by the nearly 10,000 war dead buried here. Visitors can search for relatives or pay tribute to the several Medal of Honor winners, which include the sons of former President Roosevelt. This cemetery is also the resting place of two of the Niland brothers, the inspiration for the Steven Spielberg film “Saving Private Ryan.”
