An institution on the Lower East Side, Katz’s is the most famous purveyor of deli sandwiches and hot dogs. Not Kosher according to Jewish Halacha, it is nonetheless a popular site for tourists looking to sample New York’s best pastrami. Famous for its support the troops slogan, “Send a salami to your boy in the army”, in effect since World War II the deli was also featured in the film “When Harry met Sally.” The table where Meg Ryan’s fake orgasm scene, which so embarrassed Jewish funny-man Billy Crystal, took place is marked with a plaque that reads “Hope you had what she had.”
